The Impact of the Affordable Care Act on Recovery Services

Here is an interesting look at how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) can actually support recovery and treatment for mental health issues and substance use disorders.  This is a positive step in bringing awareness to the connection between mental health and substance use disorders.

This meeting shown in the archived session below, brought together the nation's leading experts in the fields of substance use disorders and mental health treatment.  Discussion included the latest programs, policies, and how the ACA is expanding coverage and access to behavioral health services.

What Heroin Addiction Tells Us About Changing Bad Habits

Recently, listeners of the National Public Radio (NPR) heard a story on how environment shapes habits.  It is evidence based and relevant to the work of community coalitions and individuals working to improve the community alcohol environment, although the original research was about heroin addiction (another concern in many Wisconsin communities).

Click here to read and listen to the story - it is well worth the time.

Valentine's Day Surprise

Last week, the Color Outside the Lines (COL) youth group students wrote individual valentines for every student in the middle school and hung them on lockers after school.  Students were so surprised when they arrived at school the next morning!  Check out the photos below.

Color Outside the Lines (COL) is a 6th-8th grade student leadership group at the Lodi Area Middle School.  Students meet during FLEX to plan various activities aimed at improving school climate and to help all students feel important and accepted.

Other upcoming initiatives the group is working on include "Mix it Up" activities at lunch, a possible "Lock-In" in April, and educational videos.

Complete the Winter Challenge!

In case you missed our blog post from a few weeks ago, LCAT has a challenge for YOUR family!  We are challenging you to spend more quality family time together.  You may be wondering what your family can do during this time of year.  It's so COLD outside!

Well, we have the solution!  We have compiled a "Winter Challenge" Activity Sheet, which lists several outdoor and indoor family activities in our area.  Try completing as many activities as you can this winter!

This challenge sheet was modeled after The Real Happy Hour initiative, which promotes families spending more quality time together.  We also have information about The Real Happy Hour on our website and you can download more family challenge activity sheets (just scroll to the bottom of the page).

We hope to help your family stay busy and spend time together all year long!
